barbarafett: (Saito)
The last two times I've 'fallen in love with' a work of fiction and gotten involved in its fandom, I've written an essay about how I became a fan of that work, why I like it so much, and what being a fan has been like so far. Before that, I also wrote two other LJ entries describing how I got into two of my earlier fandoms. I've recently gotten into yet another fandom, so this entry is the fifth in my series of essays on that topic. All previous entries in the series are filed under my "newestfandom" tag, but it's neither necessary nor required that you read the previous ones first.

(I've realized that I never wrote one of these for "House" when I started getting into it last year. Oops. Maybe I should write a mini-post about why I like it.)

Cut because it's LONG. Spoilers for Inception, of course. Also, the scene that ends both the movie and graphic-novel versions of Watchmen is alluded to, though not described. )

I finished it! This picks up from where Part 1 left off.

Written in response to a prompt for genfic over at [livejournal.com profile] inception_kink. The prompt was: "The team celebrates the Fourth of July. Eames is just like, "goddamn it you guys. ):<" There will be more tomorrow, probably.

Cut for length (and one bad word) )

yearly creative challenge!

Yep, it's another "one scene extended over two drabbles" post in my ongoing Inception drabble series. The latest challenge prompt over at [livejournal.com profile] inception100 (“Periwinkle”) inspired me to write about this topic, but the topic forced me to backtrack and write out of order. Chronologically, the two drabbles in this post, which are #13 and #14 in the ongoing series, happen right before #8 and #9 – this is the dream from which Arthur catches Dom and Eames waking up.

Also, this is the first occurrence in this drabble series of a convention that several other Inception fanfic writers have used, and I will take up as well: In my writing, dreams can easily be distinguished from reality because any action taking place in a dream is written in the present tense.

#13 - Periwinkle Shirt )

#14 - On the Art of Forging )

#10 in my ongoing Inception drabble series.

Before, they’d rushed off to Sydney so fast that Arthur hadn’t had time to clean the place up. Now, he did, so he was.

A stray sheet of paper he discovered under a desk gave him pause. He couldn’t read the words on it (chickenscratch? Arabic? Both?), but he knew what molecular diagrams looked like.

The others, noticing him gazing at the paper, gathered around. They looked at it, then at each other.

"It just isn’t the same, is it?" said Ariadne.

"No," said Eames. "What do you say we give Yusuf a ring? Strictly socially, of course."

"Yes, let’s."

Wrote two Inception drabbles today, so I'm posting them together and putting them behind cuts.

Inception Drabble #8: Surprise Encounter. Contains one bad word. )

Inception Drabble #9: Motive. Contains no bad words. )
barbarafett: (moon)
This is another fragment of Inception fanfic. This one is post-film and is a crossover between Inception and the TV series House. Again, crossposted to my journal and [livejournal.com profile] august_writing, and will be posted to [livejournal.com profile] inceptionfic someday when the final, polished draft is written. This is only a very rough sketch of how I want the first part to go. It's also a backdated entry; I'm actually posting it on Saturday the 21st. I did write this yesterday, but didn't get a chance to post it.

Cut for length )

This is the fifth in my ongoing Inception drabble series. Crossposted to my journal, [livejournal.com profile] august_writing, and [livejournal.com profile] inception100.

---

Dom had enjoyed a year of blissful retirement and parenthood. He refused to lose that life again. If he was going to accompany and protect Ariadne (which he was, despite himself), he wanted to remain anonymous. Besides, he wasn't the legendary extractor anymore. For this job, he needed to be someone else.

Forgery was the one dream skill Dom lacked. He called up another old friend, who, thankfully, hadn’t retired.

"Eames, come to Paris. I need a forging mentor."

"Whatever for?"

"Ariadne’s turning extractor. I want to protect her without being recognized."

"Ariadne?! Of all people! I’ll be right there."
barbarafett: (moon)
This is the fourth in my ongoing series of Inception drabbles. The plot continues to thicken. Crossposted to my journal, [livejournal.com profile] august_writing, and [livejournal.com profile] inception100.

---

"You want me to what?"

Why did people keep saying that? "You don't want me trying to pull off my first extraction all alone, do you, Arthur?"

Arthur scoffed at her over the phone. "If you're serious about getting into this business, then stop acting like a sweet little girl and start talking business."

"You’ll get paid. Not what you’re worth, I know, but you’ll get paid."

"That’s more like it. I’m in."

"Thank you."

"You’re welcome. It’s mostly because I don’t want you getting killed."

Ariadne smiled. "Dom’s here. He’s not in, though."

"Well. This will be awkward."
barbarafett: (Default)
Yes, a second entry on the same day! This is a third Inception drabble, in continuity with my previous two.

---

"You want me to what?"

"Please, Dom. Either teach me extraction, or let’s team up again."

"You didn’t mention my name to your… potential employers, did you?"

"No, and they didn’t mention yours."

"Ariadne, listen. Get out while you still can. You’re so talented... and so innocent."

"Innocent? You’ve seen me handle myself under fire."

"Yes, but I meant in reality. Don’t follow me into mind crime. You’re meant for better things."

Ariadne looked defiant. "I want the adventure. I already asked Arthur, in case you said no. He’s on his way."

This was not the reunion Dom had wanted.
barbarafett: (moon)
This is a second Inception drabble in continuity with my previous one, Team Picture. (I'm going to try to connect all my Inception drabbles in one continuous story for as long as I can keep the story going.) Again, crossposted to [livejournal.com profile] august_writing, [livejournal.com profile] inception100, and my journal.

---

"You want me to what?"

"Ariadne asked for you, Dom."

"Why would she want me as a mentor when she has you?"

"It’s not the same. I’m her professor and you’re-"

"Her ex-boss."

"Her friend."

Dom paused. "She said that?"

"Yes. She seems to think of you like an older brother. Wouldn’t you call her your friend?"

My guardian. My guiding light. The one who helped me get my life back.

"I would. I’ll do it, but the kids come first."

"Of course. Ariadne knows that, too. I’ll watch them whenever necessary."

"Thank you."

It seemed that reunion was beginning.
barbarafett: (moon)
I haven't written the beginning of this yet, nor have I quite decided where to go with it from here, but here's what I've written today.

This is a post-movie fic, and the Dream Team has gotten back together. (Arthur/Ariadne pairing, by the way, but G-rated so far.)

Crossposted to my journal and [livejournal.com profile] august_writing so far. Will be posted to [livejournal.com profile] inceptionfic when it's more finished and polished.

Enter the dreamworld once again... )

I've completely overhauled the poem I started working on yesterday. I'm much happier with it now.

This is just a rough draft of a new poem.

Poetry this way... )

Today's piece of writing is a drabble inspired by the film Inception. Crossposted to my journal, [livejournal.com profile] august_writing, and [livejournal.com profile] inception100.

It generally wasn't a good idea to create evidence of involvement in mind crime (or any crime), but Ariadne had insisted. At least she'd posed them against an anonymous exterior wall of their warehouse, and had used a Polaroid camera so there'd be no electronic record. Although (or because?) he'd never see them again, Dom kept the folded photo in his wallet.

Eventually, though, Miles invited him and the children back to Paris. If he was visiting Miles, he probably wouldn't be able to avoid seeing Ariadne, too. Looking at the photo, he wondered if there'd ever be a reunion.
