Summary: Arthur and Ariadne have their own ideas about how they want to do their wedding. Their friends help them make it happen.
Author's Notes: I've had this idea in my head for a while. I finally sat down and wrote it in response to the Free-For-All challenge (#14) at [livejournal.com profile] inception_land. I ran out of time to finish Part 2 before the deadline for the challenge, but I'm entering Part 1 anyway. Worst-case scenario, I just won't earn any points for it.

Like many other wedding receptions, Arthur and Ariadne's was being held outdoors in a garden. Like many other newlywed couples, they were both roving from table to table, trying to grab a few seconds with each one of their many friends and relatives before the evening was over. There was never enough time to say as much as they wanted to say to anyone.

It was Dom who looked into Ariadne's eyes, took her aside under a tree, and asked her, "What's wrong? You look a little disappointed."

Ariadne hesitated a little before telling him. "It's not real."

"Of course it is. Haven't you checked your totem today? I know I have."

"Of course I have. That's not what I meant. I meant, we didn't actually do the whole traditional-wedding thing because we wanted to. We just wanted to please both sets of parents."

"Well, what did you really want to do?"

Ariadne smiled. "The impossible. It's what we do every day, after all."

Dom smiled back, understanding. "I think I know a way to make that happen. I'll be in touch with you later."

---------------

The next day, Cobb made a phone call.

"Hello, this is Saito."

"Hello, Saito, it's Cobb. Good news. Arthur and Ariadne have gotten married."

"Really? That's wonderful!"

"They wanted to invite you, but all their families were there, and Ariadne's family doesn't know about her life of crime, so you would have been hard to explain. Sorry."

"How did she explain you, then?"

"She said I'd hired her for her first job while she was still in school, which is true. We're letting her family think it was just designing an office complex."

Saito chuckled at that. "I understand. I'll send them a nice wedding present."

"Actually, there's something else they would like even more. Ariadne said she'd rather have done something in a dream as part of her wedding. If all of us got together and did that now, you would be invited. All we need is a secure place to have the celebration."

"Of course! I would be happy to do that for you. And for them."

"Thank you very much. I'll tell Ariadne. We'll set something up."

Cobb immediately called Ariadne, who was delighted to hear that Saito was willing to help her pull off her secret celebration, and wanted to attend. Cobb arranged a conference call among the three of them, and they worked out the details. The team would meet in secret in a hotel in Tokyo, where Saito would have their needs seen to and keep the gathering private. All Ariadne and Arthur would need to bring was themselves, their wedding outfits, their PASIV device, and their wild, but carefully-designed dreams.

Our dream wedding is still to come...

If you're reading this note, you are cordially invited to join us for a special celebration we have planned. Shh – it's a secret! Only we and the five people we've invited are in on this. The celebration will be held at the Tokyo Prince Hotel, at 7:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 19. No gifts, please, just the honor of your presence.

Love,

The Happy Couple

Ariadne slipped these notes into five of the dozens of thank-you notes she was putting into envelopes. Arthur was busy elsewhere in the apartment, unpacking all the gifts that the notes expressed gratitude for. They'd been back in Paris for several days now, and there were a million things to do. They'd gone home to the States to get married because their family and official citizenship were there, but they were too accustomed to their international lifestyle to give it up.

They had decided to stay in Paris, at least for now. They had met there, they both loved the city, and they could keep their existing base of operations. Between the continuing high demand for Arthur's expertise as a point man and Ariadne's double life as an architect of both real places and dreamscapes, they earned enough to live comfortably on, and to pay for a long-term lease on the warehouse where they had worked together on the Fischer job. Ariadne was slowly transforming the utilitarian space into a comfortable, stylish, and state-of-the art architect's studio. The old patio lounge chairs were still there, stacked in a corner as a reminder of the experiences that had brought them together.

"Ariadne?" Arthur said, coming into the room. "I'm finished with all the kitchen stuff. Do you need help?"

"Yes," said Ariadne, "that would be great. Thank you."

Arthur pulled up a chair and sat beside her. She pushed over half of the envelopes and notes. He ran one hand affectionately through her hair as he sat down. She reached up and gave his hand a little squeeze.

He chuckled at the wording of the note. "Clever."

"Thanks," she said. "I can't wait to show everyone what we're designing."

"Neither can I."
