A short Neopets vignette. This is part of my regular Neopets fanfic series, not the Shadowhood series. This time, Ryuukomon is the viewpoint character, instead of Barbara.

My family makes a visit to the Money Tree for a little while almost every day. It's fun, even though it can get very frustrating sometimes. Barbara, my owner, calls it a cross between the world's biggest yard sale and the mosh pit at a concert. She had to explain both of these references to us Neopets. There are concerts in Tyrannia, but we haven't been to any of them yet, so we don't know whether or not they have mosh pits.

The area around the Money Tree is always noisy and chaotic. There are always crowds of Neopets and owners trying to gather as many items and Neopoints as they can. Those people are the inner crowd; they always stand closest to the tree. Then there's the outer crowd, the people who are just there to donate items. With so many people trying to collect items, the people trying to donate them can't actually get to the tree, so they have to throw their items at the tree (or have their flying Neopets fly them over the heads of the rest of the crowd to the tree, if they have any flying Neopets). As a result, when you're standing in the inner crowd, it looks as if food, Neopoints, and whatever other items people are donating are falling from the tree like fruit, and raining from the sky. The inner crowd is always pushing, shoving, and jumping at every single item; everyone in it is trying to be faster than everyone else, in order to grab each item before anyone else gets it. (If some Neopets train so hard at the Battledome training schools to increase their speed, why can't they use their increased speed to out-grab everyone else at the money tree? Ah, the mysteries of life under TNT.)

Anyway, if you stay in the inner crowd long enough, eventually the collective motion of the crowd will force you to the outside of it, where you won't be able to collect anything. By then, if you're good, you'll probably have a few common food items and knick-knacks to show for your efforts. If you were really lucky, you might even have a new piece of furniture or Battledome item. Even if you came away completely empty-handed, though, which does happen, you can always try again the next day.
