Today's piece is tangentially related to today's August Writing challenge:
Challenge: August 3 - "Hey! What's over here??" On this day in history, the crew of the Nautilus, a nuclear powered submarine, became the first people to cross the North Pole underwater. In recognition, today is a good day to write about exploring uncharted territory.
In the piece I wrote today, the uncharted territory hasn't been explored yet, but it's about to be. This piece is a prequel to my 2005 NaNoWriMo novel, Samira's Country.
ARTICLES OF FOUNDATION FOR THE FIRST COLONY ON AN EXTRASOLAR PLANET
Excerpts from the Human-Readable Summary
1. The extraterrestrial being known as Samira of Torvahl has offered to provide the people of Earth with the necessary technology to make travel to and colonization of an extrasolar planet feasible. On behalf of the people of Earth, the United Nations accepts this offer, and authorizes the creation of such a project, to be initiated immediately.
2. Participation in the project as a colonist shall be voluntary. Efforts shall be made to publicize this opportunity to as many different nations as possible. All volunteers shall be subject to a screening progress designed by Samira and implemented by UNCIEL (the United Nations Commission for Interaction with Extraterrestrial Life). Volunteers who pass the screening shall be subject to the final approval of Samira herself.
3. The primary purpose of the colony shall be to give humanity an opportunity to start with a clean slate - on a new planet, with previously-untouched natural resources - and to implement their accumulated knowledge of how to protect those resources more fully than ever before. Therefore, the planet shall be named Renewal.

naarmamo is related to my writing for the day. It's a flag for the uncharted territory mentioned in the writing.
