6th May, 2014 - Day 6

36º59' N, 43º17' W at noon.

We are now in the North Atlantic Ocean, and will be until we raise Lisbon. We will arrive on time. Wind from SW on the starboard beam. 63ºF/17ºC at noon. Nearest landmass is the Azores Islands. We may get calmer winds and a clearer sky as we approach it. We hit the halfway mark (by distance) of the voyage from Fort Lauderdale to Lisbon at about 0200 hrs. this morning.

Today's lecture topic: “The Movie: From Idea to Hit.” More fascinating stories. Afterward, Mom and I split up until lunchtime. I did some reading and put in an order for a special gift for Mother's Day.

Lunch at Windjammers. Discovered that there is a paper chart showing our course and the course of Columbus' first voyage displayed on an easel outside the entrance to the cafeteria. I thought that was very cool.

After lunch, we walked 6 laps of the jogging track, during which time we sighted another ship off our port beam, the first I've seen since we left Ft. Lauderdale. She was too far away to make out what she was with the naked eye, but she was mostly white, so most likely another cruise ship. Or perhaps a tanker? The sun tried to come through the clouds while we were up there.

We went inside and read books and journaled until it was time to go to choir practice. Our song is coming along fairly well. We're told that at our next rehearsal, the day after tomorrow, at least one of the pros who will sing the lead parts will be there. A lady from the choir volunteered to help out by playing the piano during rehearsals, which made a positive difference.

After rehearsal, went to watch people surf on the FlowRider, then went inside to read and journal until dinner. We also had a good chat with EM and SM at that time. I'm very pleased with the progress I've made on my journal, not to mention the novel I'm reading.*

Had dinner. Hung around in the Promenade after dinner to listen to the orchestra and singers putting on a concert, which was very fun. Walked two U-shaped laps of Deck 4 to get my 10k steps, then decided to turn in for the night. Today was a really good day. I finally got a chance to relax, do my own thing, and really feel like I was on vacation.

Still too cloudy to see the moon or stars.

W4W: Mom and I walked 9 laps in total today, all of them in each other's company.

Steps today: 11,317. Total so far: 73,189,
