Best-Friend Rivalry / Biochemistry Gone Wrong
#17 and #18 in my ongoing Inception drabble series. Crossposted directly from
inception100. Warning: F-bombs, slashy undertones, and mentions of female problems ahead.
Title: Best-Friend Rivalry
Word Count: 100
Rating: PG-13 for the F-bomb
Challenge: #12 - F*ck you!
Characters: Arthur, Eames; Dom and Ariadne mentioned (Arthur/Cobb if you choose to read it that way)
"You seem serious, even for you," said Eames to Arthur one day. "Is everything going all right with the planning?"
"Of course it is."
"But?"
Arthur sighed. "But it's not easy to change dance partners after having had the same one for so long that we know each other's every cue and movement."
"You're jealous, aren't you!"
"Fuck you."
"I've seen the way you keep looking over at us when you and Ariadne are working."
"Oh, all right. I am jealous; he is my best friend. But we all have our jobs to do. Nothing we can do about it."
Title: Biochemistry Gone Wrong
Word Count: 100
Rating: PG-13 for the F-bomb and some of the subject matter
Challenge: #12 - F*ck you!
Characters: Ariadne, Arthur, Yusuf, Eames, Cobb
Author's Notes: I'm breaking my chronological sequence again with this drabble, skipping ahead in my ongoing story. Sorry. I wanted to tell this story for this challenge, and I couldn't tell it without Yusuf. The scenes where the team gets back in touch with him and he shows up in Paris will be written later, probably.
The dreamscape seems to compress around them. The buildings shrink closer together, then return to normal.
"You're losing your control, Ariadne," says Arthur, concerned. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing. I'm fine."
"Nobody else had problems with this compound when they were dreaming," says Yusuf. "Is something else affecting your brain chemistry?"
"Yeah... painkillers and natural hormones."
Yusuf understands. "Oh, dear. I'm sorry."
"That's a new consideration," says Arthur. "At least now you know when to avoid being the dreamer."
"We seem to have a recurring pattern of women causing problems down here,” jokes Eames.
"Oh, fuck you!" Ariadne and Cobb say together.
